Qualifications

Nationally Recognised Qualifications for the Transport Sector

There are three nationally recognised qualifications which relate to commercial and community transportation. They fall into two categories:

NVQs
BTECs

M2 Training will advise which of these is most relevant to the needs of your organisation and arrange funding where available.

Level 2 NVQ (National Vocational Qualification)

NVQs are vocational awards in England and Wales that are achieved through assessment and training. Certificates in Professional Competence (CPCs)

Driver CPCs will be required for vocational drivers who drive vehicles of Licence groups C1, D1 or higher. The training will vary depending on whether you operate in the UK Passenger Transport or Logistics sectors.

EU Legislation will require PCV drivers to achieve a CPC from Sept 2008. For LGV drivers the commencement date is Sept 09.

For new drivers, the CPC must be achieved within six months of employment. If this driver enrols on the Level 2 NVQ, the obligation to complete certain modules can be delayed by up to two years.

For existing drivers, evidence must be provided that they have received 35 hours training over a period of 5 years. Ideally, this should be delivered in 7 hour sessions each year over the 5 year period. The training has to be delivered on an Approved Course and by an Approved Provider.

M2 Training is now an Approved Centre for CPC certification. To find out more click here.
