Local authorities employ large numbers of drivers and passenger assistants who provide a vital public service for their communities, including people who are very vulnerable and have multiple care requirements. Local authorities also responsible for contracting out public transport services and need to ensure that drivers have the necessary communication and customer safety skills. Many local authorities now routinely offer training to drivers and passenger assistants and also recommend that the contractors do the same.

The NVQ, or National Vocational Qualification Level 2 for drivers is a nationally recognised qualification which can be awarded to your drivers and passenger assistants through the Train to Gain initiative and is fully Government funded.
